It also plans to coordinate more deeply with American, especially after American launches London and Bangalore flights from Seattle. American's loyalty members may no longer have to worry about the mixed messages coming from China Southern and its plans to join the Oneworld Alliance. With a new partnership, frequent flyers on both carriers will now be able to reap benefits — with or without China Southern playing a role in Oneworld.

There's much to expect from Oneworld in its 20th year of service, but partners joining with Connect status may be the most interesting development to watch for.
Oneworld executives don't seem too keen on China Southern joining the alliance any time soon, but as an alternative, the Chinese carrier may be able to join as a Connect partner. For Oneworld passengers, that will at least extend loyalty benefits to connecting flights.
