Southwest closer to agreement on international flights to South and Central America

Flight attendants at Southwest will get another chance next month to vote on an agreement to let Southwest begin flying  many international destinations. Southwest and the executive board of Transport Workers Union’s Local 556 agreed to a “side letter” that lays out the contractual language that would govern those flights.

The agreement covers flights to North America; Central America; the Caribbean; Hawaii; San Juan; the northern region of South America, which includes Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru; and all current AirTran destinations.

AirTran, purchased by Southwest on May 2, 2011, already flies international, including three cities in Mexico; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; the Bahamas; Bermuda; and Aruba.
